Semnan, Hungarian universities likely to build ties in near future

Semnan University has expressed readiness to form academic ties with Hungarian counterparts in the future, its president Abbas Honarbakhsh-Raouf said early October.

Abbas Honarbakhsh-Raouf made the comments during his visit to Hungary, where he sat down with Kálmán Liptai and János Józsa, respectively presidents of Eszterházy Károly University and Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Joint research projects are one cooperation area to explore, Honarbakhsh-Raouf highlighted in the appearance with Liptai, saying he hoped for “the expansion of cooperation between the two universities once a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed in the future.”

For his part, Liptai backed the signing of an MoU, proposing that cooperation domains be identified.

As one of the most prestigious higher education institutions of Hungary, Eszterházy Károly University provides undergraduate and graduate programs in traditional fields of arts, sciences and humanities such as pedagogy and creative arts.

In the other meeting, Józsa said that Budapest University of Technology and Economics welcomes academic ties and research collaboration with Semnan University particularly in engineering and technical areas.

Founded in 1782, the university has become one of the leading research universities of Hungary and is well-known for its scientific results abroad.

Attending the meetings, Gholamali Rajabi Yazdi, Iranian ambassador to Budapest, underscored increasing scientific ties between the two countries, calling for the groundwork to be laid for a better future considering the countries’ scientific capabilities.

Faculty exchange programs and joint training courses were also discussed in the meetings, according to the envoy. “Growing relationships between Iran and Hungary indicate the political will to deepen cooperation in different spheres of cooperation including science,” he was quoted as having said.
